Recorded in 1973 following the drug related deaths of Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten and roadie Bruce Berry, Tonight's the Night is one of Neil Young's most raw and emotionally direct albums. Recorded largely live in the studio, the performances are loose, ragged, and deeply human, capturing grief, anger, exhaustion, and moments of dark humor without much polish.

From the mournful title track and the reflective “Borrowed Tune” to the sprawling “Tired Eyes” and the closing “Tonight's the Night - Part II,” the album carries an unmistakable sense of loss throughout. Often considered one of Young's defining records, Tonight's the Night stands as a central part of his celebrated Ditch Trilogy and one of the most unvarnished albums of his career.
