About
High Voltage Vinyl grew out of a deep and fast-moving love for records.
Owned and operated by Daniel Ranegar, High Voltage Vinyl began when Daniel dove headfirst into collecting vinyl and quickly realized that working with records was where he wanted to spend his time. What started as a personal passion became something more serious as collections grew, opportunities to buy records came up, and the focus shifted toward helping other people build collections of their own.
High Voltage Vinyl operates from a collector’s perspective first. The emphasis is on good music, honest grading, and records that are meant to be played. Along with new releases and reissues, used vinyl plays a major role. Daniel regularly buys large record collections, carefully sorting and re-circulating records so they can end up with people who will appreciate them.
By day, Daniel works as a social worker, a profession rooted in listening, trust, and showing up for others — values that naturally carry over into how High Voltage Vinyl is run. While that work continues for now, the long-term goal is to work with records full time.
Currently, High Voltage Vinyl operates out of a modest, dedicated workspace within shop owner Daniel Ranegar’s Chicago residence, with plans actively underway to move into a physical storefront. Until then, the shop exists online and at pop-up events, which are shared on Instagram.
At its core, High Voltage Vinyl focuses on understanding the nuances of the analog format, record preservation, and showcasing contemporary artists.
