About
High Voltage Vinyl grew out of a deep and fast-moving connection to records and the culture surrounding them.
Founded and operated by Daniel Ranegar, High Voltage Vinyl began as a personal obsession that quickly evolved into something larger. What started with collecting soon turned into buying collections, hunting down interesting records, and helping other people discover music and build collections of their own.
Since opening its storefront in Chicago on April 25, 2026, High Voltage has focused on creating a space built from a collector’s perspective first. The shop emphasizes honest grading, thoughtfully selected inventory, and records that are meant to be played and appreciated. Alongside new releases and carefully chosen reissues, used vinyl remains a major part of the shop’s identity. Large collections are regularly purchased, sorted through with care, and recirculated so records can find new homes with people who truly value them.
High Voltage Vinyl also places a strong focus on the nuances of the analog format, long-term record preservation, and showcasing both essential artists and contemporary releases.
Before opening the store, Daniel worked as a social worker in Chicago, a profession centered around listening, trust, and showing up for people - values that continue to shape how the shop operates today.
A few weeks into its storefront chapter, High Voltage continues to grow as both a neighborhood record store and an evolving space for collectors, music fans, and anyone excited about discovering records in person.
