2015 Remaster

Released in 1970, The Man Who Sold the World finds David Bowie moving into a darker, heavier, and more experimental sound. Built around Mick Ronson’s powerful guitar work and Tony Visconti’s production, the album blends hard rock, blues, psychedelia, and theatrical songwriting into something considerably stranger than Bowie’s earlier work.

From the sprawling “The Width of a Circle” and the unsettling “All the Madmen” to “Running Gun Blues,” “Saviour Machine,” and the iconic title track, The Man Who Sold the World is filled with themes of madness, war, technology, identity, and alienation. “The Supermen” closes the record on a suitably ominous note, making this one of Bowie’s most distinctive early albums and an important precursor to the glam era that followed.
