Released in 1970, Paranoid is one of the defining albums of heavy metal and arguably Black Sabbath’s most essential record. The band sharpened the dark, heavy sound of their debut into a collection of unforgettable riffs, ominous atmospheres, and remarkably direct songwriting.

The album features some of Black Sabbath’s most iconic songs, including “War Pigs,” “Paranoid,” “Iron Man,” “Electric Funeral,” and “Hand of Doom.” From the apocalyptic opening of “War Pigs / Luke’s Wall” to the psychedelic haze of “Planet Caravan” and the crushing “Fairies Wear Boots,” Paranoid is a landmark record that helped establish the blueprint for heavy metal.
